Family Center

The Milandila Family Center was born out of a time Morgan, Milandila founder, spent volunteering at a government hospital in Uganda. As a labor and delivery nurse, she saw first hand how the lack of resources coupled with the lack of patient education often resulted in poor outcomes for the mothers and infants. The Family Center was opened to bridge the gap and meet the needs of pregnant women living in Luwero District. Through educational classes, pre/postnatal care, and free resources, the Family Center offers compassionate care and community to pregnant and postpartum mothers.

The Family Center gives us the opportunity to walk closely with each woman throughout their pregnancy and postpartum. Almost half of the women who attend our Family Center programs are teenage girls. Many of the women share that they are either single mothers who receive no support from their baby’s fathers or in dysfunctional marriages. A significant number of those in our program are Muslim women. As a ministry, we are committed to showing and sharing the love of Jesus every step of the way. Through relational evangelism and discipleship, we plant seeds of Jesus through conversation, counseling, and discussion based Bible teaching. While most of the women that come to the Family Center have no personal relationship with Jesus, our prayer is that through these programs the love and gospel of Jesus would be rooted in their lives.

Pregnancy Support Program

The pregnancy program equips women to have a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. This program educates expectant mothers on the stages of pregnancy, how to prepare for birth, what to expect during labor and delivery, how to breastfeed, and how to care for a newborn. As a part of the program, each pregnant woman receives prenatal checkups from our Milandia midwife and nurses. Throughout their pregnancy we offer them free laboratory services and ultrasounds from our Milandila Lab. We provide each woman with a Mama Kit which contains the essential birth supplies required to deliver from a hospital in Uganda. Since its beginning in March of 2021, over 200 pregnant women have gone through the pregnancy program. Each mother and newborn is living proof that this program positively impacts pregnancy and delivery outcomes.

Postpartum Support Program

The postpartum program offers continued care and community for the mothers who have gone through the pregnancy program and are 0-6 months postpartum. This program educates new mothers on how to properly and safely care for their newborn. Teaching topics include feeding, hygiene, first aid, baby growth and development etc. Throughout the program, routine infant checkups and emotional check-ins with the mothers are done by our Milandila midwife and nurses. To further our support, each mother is given a monthly package that includes staple food items, soap, and diapers. The postpartum program provides them with close community and empowers them to be the best mothers they can be.

Home Visits

Home visits are where the Milandila team visits the homes of the mothers in our pregnancy and postpartum programs. These visits allow us to spend intentional time with each woman and her family and truly get to know her, her story, and her situation. Spending this time together deepens the relationship and opens up the opportunity to counsel, encourage, and disciple her on an individual basis. During these visits we pray together and bless the family with a package that contains food and baby essentials.

Laboratory

The Milandila Lab is a fully functional clinical lab that prioritizes quality and compassionate care. The lab allows us to connect with and care for the community by offering our services at a reduced price. The lab directly supports Milandila’s mission to advance health and physical wellness among those in the community.

The Milandila Lab is attached to the Family Center and offers free services to the mothers in the pregnancy program. Through inhouse testing and fast results, our Miladila midwife and nurses are able to monitor the mother’s health and the health of their developing baby. Our lab services help ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery for each mother.
